Research Interests

My name is Joshuah Lockett-Harris. I am from Toronto, Canada. I hold an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree with a Specialist in Archaeology, a Minor in Anthropology and a Minor in English from the University of Toronto, and a Master of Arts degree in Maya archaeology from Trent University. I have also worked in Cultural Resource Management (private archaeology) in Southern Ontario for two years, with Archaeological Services Incorporated and Golder Associates Ltd. I hold a Professional Archaeological License from the Ontario Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Sport, which allows me to lawfully conduct all stages of archaeological research within Ontario.

I have participated in archaeological investigations on the North Coast of Peru (studying Moche culture), in Northern Belize (studying Maya culture), and in Southern Ontario (studying historic Euro-Canadian and Indigenous Northeastern cultures). I am currently beginning my PhD in Preclassic Maya archaeology at the University of Calgary with Dr. Kathryn Reese-Taylor. For my PhD studies I will be working at the ancient Maya site of Yaxnohcah, examining the shift from Archaic Lowland Maya lifeways to Preclassic modes of thought, architecture, and socio-environmental adaptation.
