Education

Mike is currently a PhD student in the department of archaeology. Prior to coming to Calgary, he completed a BA in Classical Studies with a specialization in archaeology and ancient history from the University of Waterloo, and an MA in Maritime Archaeology from the University of Southampton. Mike is a PADI divemaster and has been involved in many underwater, intertidal, and terrestrial surveys in both Canada and Europe including co-directing the 2009 survey of the old pier at Swanage, UK. His current research focuses on elucidating the relationship between ship structures and shipboard social interaction using space syntax techniques commonly applied in modern architecture and urban planning.
