Profile

Denise Buchner has a PhD in Global Health Research from the University of Calgary and an MA from the University of British Columbia. Both her Master’s and PhD theses were interdisciplinary projects that used qualitative research methods to examine health systems and health seeking for people with chronic illnesses or disabilities in Swaziland and Lao PDR respectfully. Prior to joining the W21C Team, Denise was working as a research manager for a University of Calgary project called Healthy Child Uganda, which is working to improve maternal and child health outcomes in rural Uganda through community-based health interventions. At W21C, Denise is as a Senior Research Associate for Dr. Tom Stelfox’s "Reengineering the Discharge of Elderly Patients from Intensive Care" project.  In addition to her work with W21C, Denise is also the principal investigator for a project called Engaging Private Drug Shops in Rural Uganda, which is funded through Grand Challenges Canada Rising Stars in Global Health.
