Profile

Dr. Hatfield is presently the director of both the Health and Society Program and the Global Health Program at the O’Brien Centre for the Bachelor of Health Sciences (BHSc).  A former psychology clinician, Dr. Hatfield is leading many innovative research projects around the world on behalf of Canada and the University of Calgary.  In 2008, she was named one of the 100 most powerful women in Canada by the Women’s Executive Network, a list that is published annually in the Globe and Mail.

As a Senior Mentor for the United Nations Institute for Training and Research, she participated in post-conflict reconstruction leadership development projects for civil service and NGO professionals in Afghanistan.  This year Dr. Hatfield traveled to India and Japan to mentor a new group focused on gender and equity, supporting women leaders in the country.  As co-chair of the Canadian Global Health Coalition Task Group on Global Health Research Partnerships, Dr. Hatfield is responsible for leading an international team working to promote and improve partnerships between researchers in Canada and lower income countries.

Through her work as a mentor and facilitator, she has supervised dozens of students’ research projects focusing on a variety of issues in Canada and abroad.  She has played an integral role in the development and leadership of the BHSc Global Health Program, the first of its kind in Canada, and in the development and implementation of several areas of the BHSc curriculum.
