Current Research

Dr. Shor is presently developing the Drilling Research Group and his research interests lie in the areas of drillstring dynamics modelling and control, drilling optimization and drilling systems automation. Specifically, the application of reduced order modelling and modelling for control to enable model predictive control for drilling tasks and drilling optimization through data processing and machine learning. He is also interested in reducing the impact of drilling operations on the environment and surrounding communities.

The following are some of Dr. Shor’s research interests:
  • Reduced order modelling and modelling for control
  • Drillstring dynamics modeling and measurement
  • Stick-slip mitigation systems
  • Drilling optimization through data analytics
  • Improved geosteering and wellbore placement
  • Drilling systems automation
