About me:

Born in St Lucia, in the Caribbean, I have spent over half my life traveling, living in countries where English is not the first language: Peru, Italy, Spain and Germany. This has given me a real working knowledge of how languages function and has led me here to the University of Calgary.

I have undergraduate degrees in education and sports science, and my experience with languages and cultures as both a teacher and a learner have provided me with a solid base for this master’s degree in Applied Linguistics. My research interests include ethnically diverse language learners and pedagogy, so I am particularly drawn to Dr. Angela George’s research on second language acquisition and pedagogy, specifically sociolinguistics and heritage learners.

When I am not learning something new, I enjoy swimming, hiking, cycling and can’t wait to go white water rafting down the Bow River with my family. I am grateful for the opportunity to enhance my research and teaching skills and to contribute positively to the university and community. I look forward to hard work in a warm Canadian atmosphere, in no way connected to the often chilly weather!
