Profile

Interests: Social work education, children and family issues, human sexuality, clinical social work practice, social work research and social statistics, and gender.

Heather Coleman has been with the Faculty of Social Work since 1992. Prior to entering academia, she practised social work in a variety of settings, including psychiatric social work, forensic social work, chronic and rehabilitative care, family services, and child welfare.

Coleman has published a number of books, chapters, and refereed journal articles since joining the faculty. She has written extensively on child and family social work as well as social work education. Her most recent co-authored book is An Introduction to Family Social Work, 4th Ed. (2012) has been adopted for classroom use across North America and internationally. It has been translated into several languages.

Coleman has served on the Board of Accreditation for the Canadian Association for Social Work Education. She is currently Associate Dean, Southern Alberta Region, Faculty of Social Work, University of Calgary.
