Notes: Picturing Knowledge Networks 1400 ¿ 1800 This course will explore the diverse range of visual culture produced as a result of, and as a driving force behind, expanding knowledge networks in the increasingly global early modern world. Topics may include the link between material culture and the formulation of the public sphere, interrogating the concept of objectivity in scientific representations, collecting practices, the negotiation of gender, and the centrality of images to the establishment of colonial powers. |
