Heather Leier is an assistant professor in the Department of Art. She completed her BFA from the University of British Columbia Okanagan campus and received her MFA in Printmaking from the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Her artistic research focuses on social constructions of life stages, contemporary implementations of print media, installation, and social art making practices. She is currently considering the shared assumptions of the life-phase of young womanhood through research-creation practices that explore her embodied experience negotiating this perception while enduring violence.

Her work has been exhibited in many international exhibitions including the International Triennial of Contemporary Graphic Arts in Novosibirsk at the Novosibirsk State Art Museum, Novosibirsk, Russia, The International Biennial Print Exhibit: ROC at the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Art, The Okanagan Print Triennial at the Kelowna Art Gallery in Kelowna BC, Litho-Kielce: The International Lithography Competition at Art Exhibition Bureau, Kielce, Poland and 2015 Guanlan International Print Biennial in Guanlan, China. Solo exhibitions of her work have been presented by Martha Street Studio (Winnipeg), Lake Country Public Art Gallery (Lake Country, BC), The Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art (Kelowna), Hudgens Center for Art and Learning (Duluth, Georgia) and The Fine Arts Building Gallery (Edmonton, Alberta).
