Infrared absorption and vibrational circular dichroism spectroscopy are used for determining and monitoring molecular structures of DNA and strategically selected nucleic acid oligomers as influenced by nucleic acid sequences and resulting from interaction with metal ions or certain drug molecules. Of interest are static as well as time-dependent dynamic changes. In support of these objectives, certain instrument improvements are required for recording vibrational circular dichroism spectra, including innovations to achieve higher intensities enabling greater resolution and reduced scan times.
Necessary for involvement in this project are an interest and aptitude for spectroscopic instrumentation as well as passion for and competence in nucleic acid chemistry.
