Profile

Professor Cawthorpe has published extensively in the areas of epidemiology and psychiatry. Professor Cawthorpe has developed three electronic records with embedded clinical screening and patient-centered outcome measurement, sensitive enough to measure the effects of clinical teaching in the community in terms of the post-training changes in the quality and quantity of subsequent referrals to centralized regional health services. Professor Cawthorpe has developed a health service utilization database containing over 90 million records from 1993 to 2010 for approximately 750,000 individuals from his regional health zone. Algorithms developed to date characterize the comorbidity profiles of disorders associated with mental disorders, neoplasms, and digestive disorders, to name a few. Additionally, based on analysis of mental disorder within the population, Dr. Cawthorpe identified a novel population health index with the potential to evaluate geographically focused population-based prevention and promotion initiatives.
