Short Biography

Ian Brodie is Graduate Program Director at the Centre for Military, Strategic and Security Studies at the University of Calgary and associate professor of political science. Prior to joining the U of C, Brodie was a Strategic Advisor at the Inter-American Development Bank and, prior to that, Chief of Staff to Canada’s former Prime Minister, Stephen Harper and Executive Director of the Conservative Party of Canada

 

An academic by training, Brodie is a graduate of McGill University and the University of Calgary. He is the author of Friends of the Court and many academic articles. He has received the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal, the Governor General’s Gold Medal, the SSHRC Doctoral Fellowship, the Killam Scholarship and the Ralph Steinhauer Award of Merit. He was associate professor of Political Science at the University of Western Ontario from 1997-2002 and a Visiting Fellow at the McGill Institute for the Study of Canada in 2009.

 

Brodie is a director of the Canada Health Infoway and the Institute for Research on Public Policy and formerly served as a director of the Conference of Defence Associations Institute and Civitas. He is a member of the advisory board of the Canadian Global Affairs Institute and the Program Committee of the Halifax International Security Forum. He serves as a Senior Fellow of the Atlantic Institute of Market Studies and on the Editorial Advisory Board of C2C Journal.
