About Me:

 

Matt is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics and an Executive Fellow at the School of Public Policy.  Matt has over 20 years' experience working as an economist, mostly within the area of electricity markets.  Matt worked Alberta Market Surveillance Administrator (MSA, an agency that monitors the Alberta electricity market for breaches in rules and anti-competitive behavior) from 2005 to 2017 in a variety of roles including Chief Economist, Deputy Administrator and Chief Executive Officer. Matt returned to the MSA in 2018 and works part-time as Chief Economist. 

 

Matt also works as a consultant in the area of electricity markets. His other work experience includes applied econometrics, forensic economics and teaching and research at U.K. universities. Matt has a BA and MA in economics and PhD from the University of Nottingham, U.K.
