Bob Hinings

Bio

Bob Hinings is Senior Research Mentor at the Haskayne School. As such, he works with young faculty and Phd students on developing research, preparing papers for publications and generally giving advice where possible. He is involved in a DBA course on Engaged Scholarship, Evidence-based Management, and Knowledge Transfer.

He is also Professor Emeritus in the Department of Strategic Management and Organization, Faculty of Business, University of Alberta, a Research Fellow of the Judge Business School, University of Cambridge and a Fellow of Cambridge Digital Innovation. He has a long record of studying organizations, especially organizational change with an institutional theory lens. His more recent studies have been on professional service firms, healthcare reorganization and the Canadian wine industry in the Okanagan Valley and Ontario.

He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and a Fellow of the U.S. Academy of Management.  He received an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Montreal for his contributions to the discipline of organization theory. He received the Distinguished Scholar Award from the Organization and Management Theory Division of the U.S. Academy of Management.  He is an Honorary Member of the European Group for Organizational Studies. Together with Royston Greenwood he received the Pasmore-Goodman Award from the Organizational Development and Change Division of the Academy of Management for significant contributions to the study of organizational change.

He has been Co-Editor of Organization Studies and was a member of the Editorial Board of Administrative Science Quarterly. He has chaired the Management Committee of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council and was a member of the Research Review Committee, Canadian Health Services Research Foundation.  He was a member of the Health Policy Research Program Peer Review Panel, Health Canada, and Chair of a Canadian Health Services Research Foundation Review Panel.

He has published 12 books and more than 190 journal articles, book chapters, articles in proceedings.
