Dr. Vernon Jones is a Professor in the Strategy and Global Management Area at the Haskayne School of Business and Senior Fellow with the Canadian Centre for Advanced leadership. He most recently served as Senior Associate Dean of the School (to 2018). He has also served as Assistant Dean (B.Comm and MBA programs), Associate Dean (Academic Planning & Development) and Vice-Dean including two years as Interim Dean (January 2006 to December 2007). Dr. Jones was co-founder of the Executive MBA program in 1996 and served as the Academic Director from 2003 to 2006 and again from 2012 to 2018.

Dr. Jones holds a BA in Economics and an MBA and PhD in Business Administration from the University of British Columbia. He has also been an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Commerce and Business Administration (now John Molson School) at Montreal’s Concordia University, and a Visiting Professor at the Institut de Formation Internationale at ESC Rouen in France. He served as Executive Director of the Banff School of Advanced Management from 1996 to 1999.

Dr. Jones’ research has focused on the application of analytical methods to marketing problems. He also has a particular interest in the origin and development of business schools and has written a history of the Faculty of Management at the University of Calgary (now Haskayne School of Business) from 1967 to 1991 and the founding of the Banff School of Advanced Management in 1952. His published papers have appeared in the Journal of Advertising Research, the Journal of Marketing Research, the Journal of Travel Research, the International Journal of Physical Distribution and Logistics Management, the International Journal of Educational Management, the Case Research Journal, the University of Calgary Press and the University of Toronto Press.
