Bio

Dr. Percy Garcia is a Senior Research Associate at Haskayne School of Business, University of Calgary and affiliated with the International Resources Industries and Sustainability Centre (IRIS).  Also, he is a private consultant on social and environmental issues in the hydrocarbon industry in Latin America.  His experience includes five years in the oil and gas industry in the areas of reservoir, production, and operation engineering; consulting on natural gas marketing in North America; and conflict resolution and negotiations, improving institutional arrangements, building capacity, and sustainable development programs for governments and corporations in Latin America.

His current research focuses on indigenous people, conflict resolution and negotiation, social and environmental issues, hydrocarbon industry in Latin America, technology transfer, capacity building, sustainable development, and international business.  He has graduated in petroleum engineering from Universidad Nacional de Ingeniería (UNI), Peru (1990) and holds MEDes (1998) and PhD (2006) from the University of Calgary.  His dissertation topic was Sustainable Development Strategies in International Business: The Case of Resource-Based Firms in the Andean Region of Latin America.
