About Me

I am Alexander Norena I am from Colombia. I have a bachelor's degree in Spanish and Literature. I worked almost 10 years as a reading promotor in a public library in my home country and I have worked in several editorial projects, I have published a number of poems and short stories in magazines of national circulation in Colombia, and I have experience managing cultural projects. One of my main research interests is the format “picture book” in which I find philosophical and ethical precepts that highlight the role of children’s literature on adult and children’s education. Moreover, I think the semantic relations between picture and text can also be pedagogical. For instance, in this format, complex concepts such as death, oblivion, violence, good and evil, happiness, reality, love and peace can be recognized as realities closer to the reader. I am also interested on researching the underlying relationship between the picture book and its reader. Finally, I would like to explore the codes that emerge from the creation of picture books (e.g. artistic codes derived from the theory of advertising and linguistic codes related to brevity and thematic synthesis) associated with the concept of habitus which establishes the relationship of the elements of human daily life and its social implications.
