I’m originally from Göttingen, the geographical heart of Germany, where I obtained my Bachelor’s degree in English and American Studies. I’ve always had a passion for languages and knew relatively soon during my studies that I wanted to pursue a degree in Linguistics and was accepted to the University of Victoria in British Columbia, Canada in 2013, where I graduated with a Master of Arts degree in Applied Linguistics in the Summer of 2018. While theoretical linguistics became “my love at second sight”, speaking different languages has been a dream close to my heart since I was 4. I speak German, English, French, Dutch, and Danish. In grad school, my focus became phonetics and phonology in second language acquisition, or more generally speaking: foreign accent. I am interested in the research of Dr. Mary O’Brien, whom I have chosen as my supervisor as we share common passions. Dr. O’Brien’s expertise is the reason why I am pursuing a PhD at the University of Calgary, whose financial support I value immensely.
Aside from being a school enthusiast I love to play music, write songs, play sports (soccer, skiing), and travel the world. With beautiful Canmore right next door, it’s a dream come true for me to be able to go skiing, practice biathlon, and go hiking, all of which I enjoy a lot. My favourite movies are 10 Things I Hate about You, Pulp Fiction and Arrival. My favourite novel is The Gambler by Dostoyevsky.
