Jessica Ruffolo

I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Italian Studies from the University of Calgary. During both undergraduate degrees, I was fascinated by the expression of ethics found in Italian literature. After learning more about how different philosophical  and cultural concepts appear in the form of different writing styles, I was inspired to apply to the University of Calgary’s Master of Arts in the LLAC Transcultural studies program. My research interests include medieval, renaissance, and 20^th century literature, stilnovismo, verismo, southern-Italian authors, and morality and ethics imbedded in Italian poetry and prose.

I speak fluent Italian and English. I also have intermediate knowledge of French and Spanish. If I had to choose one favourite literary work it would be the Divina Commedia by Dante Alighieri. I have many favourite movies, two of them being Silence by Martin Scorsese (2016) and La Ciociara by Vittorio De Sica (1960). I enjoy throwing pottery on the wheel, listening to music, reading, and cooking for/eating with friends and family.
