ITAL 309 - Arts and Popular Culture - Fall 2005

This intermediate-level course presents various aspects of Italian civilization exploring at the same time the links between language and culture. The focus will be, in particular, on those aspects of popular culture that form the identity of the Italian people and to which speakers commonly refer to in everyday speech. The topics covered will range from architecture, literature, cinema, opera (the “arts”) to cooking, myths, collective memories, popular religious culture, among others (“popular culture”).
This course may not be repeated for credit.
