SPAN 643.05 - 2nd Lang Learning: theory and practice - Fall 2005

This course is a theoretical and practical overview of the processes involved in acquiring a second language. We will explore theories of second language acquisition, history of second language pedagogy, individual learner characteristics, strategies and styles, teaching to the four skills, the role of culture in the language classroom, and the use of technology in language teaching. Students will take turns presenting the readings and demonstrating classroom activities. The opportunity to explore one of these areas in more depth will be the objective of the final research paper.
This course may not be repeated for credit.
